"Mainbase is my Fathers Country. This is where Nyinyilki a freshwater spring south-east of Bentinck Island where our Father is from. This is now the mainbase." Amanda Jane Gabori was born in 1966 on Mornington Island, Qld. She is the youngest daughter of the late famous artist Sally Gabori and is receiving increased attention for her innovative canvases. Amanda went to school on Mornington Island and Atherton. She has four children and several grandchildren and started painting with her mother at the art centre on Mornington Island in 2010. She is a highly creative and talented artist whose work is gaining much attention since she started exhibiting in 2016. She says " I paint my Country on Bentinck Island and Dibirdibi which is the name given to me by my father. Dibirdibi is the small river
rock cod. I like to paint the scales that cover his body."
