Overview

'Doesn't matter what sort of painting we do in this country; it still belongs to the people, all the people. This is worship, work, culture. It's all Dreaming.'  Arrente artist and activist Wenten Rubuntja

From a striking painterly landscape by award-winning artist Adrian Jangala Robertson, to sweeps of brilliant colour by founding artists of the Pilbara, Balgo and the NPY Lands, to classic designs by leading Papunya painters, the 50+ vibrant paintings in Small Works, Big Stories portray epic creation stories. Earliest works are two c.1984 watercolours by Arrernte artist and activist Wenten Rubunta (1926-2005) with others collected by Everywhen's curators Susan McCulloch and Emily McCulloch Childs over more than 20 years.

The earliest work in the exhibition is a circa 1984 landscape by famed Arrernte watercolourist Wenten Rubuntja (1926-2005). Other works are those by important and founding artists of leading art centres in the Kimberley, Central and Western Deserts, Utopia, the Pilbara and Arnhem Land.
