Pareip 2025

19 September - 26 October 2025
Overview

Celebrating the Bunurong season of Pareip (True Spring) with a selection of works from Central Australia, the Kimberley and Arnhem Land and featuring new works by nine artists of Warlukurlangu Aboriginal Corporation of Yuendumu which celebrates its 40th anniversary of establishment this year.

Painting started at Yuendumu in the late 1960s when Warlpiri men of the community created a men's museum, whose walls they painted with designs of traditional creation stories and later, similar images on the school's doors. Shortly after, a series of collaborative works were commissioned by public galleries, and painting was taken up by community members more continuously. In 1986 their artist owned art centre Warlukurlangu (meaning 'place belonging to fire') was established and has since become one of the leading and most successful community art centres in Australia.

Warlurlukurlangu artists respresented in the exhibition are Agnes Nampitjinpa Brown, Antonia Napangardi Michaels, Athena Nangala Granites, Debbie Napaljarri Brown, Lola Nampitjinpa Brown, Marshall Jangala Robertson, Theo (Faye) Nangala Hudson, Tina Napangardi Martin and Ursula Napangardi Hudson.
