Claudine Marzik was born in Basel, Switzerland and migrated to Australia in 1988. She lives and works in Cairns Far North Qld. Best known for the abstract and highly textured surfaces on her works on canvas, Marzik’s unique pictorial visions reflect quintessence of the Australian environment. Prolonged periods of engagement with natural areas of Far North Queensland and a sustained observation of extreme climatic effects upon them have instilled a familiarity that culminates in essential visual truth.
Marzik exhibits her work regularly interstate and overseas at Regional Galleries, Contemporary Art Centres and Commercial Galleries. She has been included in travelling exhibitions.
These have included Fire Works – Tracing the Incendiary in Australian Art, Beneath The Monsoon – Visions North Of Capricorn Country & Western – Landscape re-imagined.
Claudine has been a finalist and winner of several art awards, Including winning the painting section of the Waterhouse Natural Science Award Museum Adelaide in 2014, and the overall winner of the Redland Art Award 2012, Paddington Art Prize and the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award.
Her artwork is represented in a number of significant public collections including Artbank Sydney, Kick Arts Contemporary Art Space Cairns, Perc Tucker Regional Gallery Townsville, Arts House City of Melbourne, Legal Services Brisbane, University of Queensland Art Collection Brisbane, Cairns Regional Gallery, Shire of Warwick, Gladstone Art Gallery and Museum.
