Margaret Kemarre Ross Alyawarre, b. 1966

An Alyawarre woman born in 1966, Margaret’s painting style demonstrates a deep

connection to her country. She paints with bright bold colours and has a passion for wildflowers and bush medicine. A strong and well-known artist in the community, Margaret has a similar style to her mother, artist Rosie Ngwarraye Ross who also likes to paint the native flowers and medicinal plants of Alyawarr land. Both mother and daughter enjoy painting together and expressing their love of country through their art. The Artists of Ampilatwatja community was established in 1999 near Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. The work produced by the artists is recognisably distinct from other Aboriginal artistic communities, due to the application of fine dots and the often bright and innocent figurative depiction of the land.
