Sally Gabori (c. 1924-2015) is one of the most famous contemporary Aboriginal artist who hailed originally from Bentinck Islands and was later a long time resident of Mornington Island, Queensland. Gabori started painting in 2005 and became one of the most highly acclaimed Indigenous artists in Australia. Her work is represented in the collections of most of Australia’s public galleries and in the Musee du Quai Branly, Paris as well as in numerous leading private collections both in Australia and internationally. She won a number of major awards and her work has been included in numerous public gallery exhibitions. She has also been accorded several solo exhibitions in leading public galleries. Since her passing in February 2015, prices of Gabori's work have continued to climb.
This work was acquired by its first owner Noel Will directly from Mornington Island Arts on a visit to Mornington Island in 2009 where he spent time in the art centre and observed Mrs Gabori painting the work.
