Amanda Jane Gabori was born in 1966 in the township of Gununa on Mornington Island. One of 10 children, she is the youngest daughter of painter, the late Sally Gabori. Amanda says that she started painting when she was ' just sitting at home.... wanting to join my mum painting as she was really enjoying it."
Since 2010, Amanda has exhibited in leading private galleries around Australia, as well as public galleries including Cairns Art Gallery, Queensland Gallery of Modern Art and in the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair.
Her main painting themes are her country of Bentick Island - its rocks, tidal waterholes and landscapes, as well as the scales that cover the body of the small river cod, Dibirdibi which is her language name and totem given to her by her father.
