Inspired by London theatre, 'The Drama' evokes the plays of Samuel Beckett. As Charles reads aloud to Barbara, the characters emerge from darkness into light. The original oil painting was first exhibited in a Charles Blackman solo exhibition at South Yarra Galleries, Melbourne, March 1964.
