Marie Jabinee
16 1/2 x 23 5/8 in
Born in 1937, it was decades before Jabinee began painting,
starting in her early 80’s. Until that point Jabinee worked as a
jillaroo travelling the NT widely. The markings
of this print reflect traditional body paint design applied to both
female and male torsos during ceremonial dance. The dots that line the work are called ‘Durrmu’ and refer to ceremonial marks. The strength
of the work is illustrative of her vivacity and incredible life.
Jabinee was a highly respected woman of Peppimenarti, who is greatly
missed since her passing in early 2020.
