The Silence from Within is from a series of paintings developed following a visit to Wilsons Promontory National Park in late 2024. The work reflects on the quiet, expansive character of the landscape and the subtle human presence within it. A figure heads into the distance—echoing the wandering figures often found in early Australian Impressionist paintings of the late nineteenth century. Rather than acting as subjects, these figures function as quiet markers of scale and passage, suggesting a contemplative relationship between people and place. The painting considers how the landscape can absorb human presence, where movement becomes slow, reflective, and almost silent within the vastness of the environment.
