Pitjantjatjara artist Emma Singer was born in 1986 and grew up in Mimili Community on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands of South Australia. Since the return of the region to Aboriginal ownership through the 1981 APY Land Rights Act, Mimili has been shaped by strong Anangu leaders such as Emma and her family. Mother of two, Emma is passionate about education and supporting young people to grow up strong in community. At her young age, she has already worked as an educator at Mimili School, and as a street-worker for Community Night Patrol. Today, Emma is one of the most promising emerging artists in the studio. She is the youngest director Mimili Maku Arts has ever had, representing the emerging artists on the board of directors. She is a compassionate teacher and mediator, and invaluable to Mimili community and the art centre. A skilled painter holding knowledge passed on through uncountable generations, Emma has presented work at Sydney Contemporary Art Fair and Melbourne Art Fair, and presented a major work as part of the Ellen José Art Award held at the Bayside Gallery, Melbourne.
