Kunmanara Pepai Jangala Carroll

This early work by the late Kunmanara (Pepai) Carroll was exhibited in the Desert Mob Exhibition, Araluen Art Centre 2010. Mr Carroll was a leading artist of Ernabella Arts in the APY Lands.. However he painted the country in which he was born more than 1000 kilometres away in the far western desert around Kintore (Walungurru).
Mr Carroll related the story of this painting in 2010 as: '"One man killed someone and he got into trouble and he’s running somewhere, but one man turned into a snake, he is Wanampi (snake) and is looking for him. He finds that man and kills him and the Wanampi goes into the water. "
Pepai Jangala Carroll became a leading, and highly sought-after artist of the APY Lands.
