We presume we have chosen where we live, perhaps we are chosen to coexist, to be guardians of this place we call home and to attend or be present in the life around us.
Often within and without there is a place of garden.
The garden lulls me, it is the gathering around of a green blue blanket to envelop and shield against the outside world. Its existence gives us context and is a conscious decision to choose nature, the human need for connection to the earth and plant forms.
It is a place of growth, each moment ephemeral, a reminder of the transience of life, from the minutiae of a seed to the majesty of a tree.
The garden is giving of itself, offering sanctuary, shelter, sustenance, surprise and beauty in all its forms, shape, light, tone, perfume, texture and colour.
It is a reminder of the power and joy of nature and the world beyond our existence.
In this body of work, viewed from my home and studio I have used the printmaking medium of monotypes, where each work is unique. Printing in two dimensions and evolving into three dimensional paper forms which are revealing of both fragility and strength.
Windows are portals allowing us to travel from here to there, framing the gaze which can alter with the mere twist of a hip, the tilt of the head or the elemental change of wind, sun, rain or light. I am constantly aware of the light filling and emptying each day, new growth, old growth, shapes developing and creating a new whole.
