Komorlo (egrets) can often be seen at billabongs, evenly spaced like sentinels around the water's edge. Their slow movement is broken only as they move suddenly to spear fish, frogs and other small animals with their beaks. The birds nest in large groups in trees by the water.

Thommo Nganjmirra's precise style is perfectly suited to capture the fine and slender forms of the egrets, and the overall design is simple and elegant. The parallel rarrk (hatching) is of a style which has adorned rock paintings in West Arnhem Land for millennia.
