Samantha Hobson was born at Lockhart River and was one of the young founding members of the Lockhart River Art Gang in the mid 1990s. Her first solo exhibition was in 2000 and she has had regular solo exhibitions since. She was awarded second prize for painting and second prize for works on paper at the 2001 Laura Festival. Samantha's work was prominently featured in Story Place: Indigenous Art of Cape York and the Rainforest at the Queensland Art Gallery in 2003 and in Contemporary Encounters at the National Gallery of Victoria in 2010.

Samantha has an incredible ability to capture the colour and intensity of a moment and transform its radiant energy into an emotional charge pulsating through the artwork. She is also not afraid to address topical issues facing her community, such as her piece 'Bust im up' (2000) which was quickly acquired by he Nataional gallery of Victoria

Samantha has an extensive list of solo and group exhibitions, as well as being acquired by a number of private and public collections.
