Mulla Mulla grows among the claypans, rocks and sands of the Tanami. It starts to appear through the rocky earth and sands as the rain arrives. The colours and reflections change throughout the seasons and the claypans and sands are always shifting and changing creating new colours, lines and marks.
The flowers go through many different shifting shades as they bud, bloom and then fade away. Mulla Mulla appears in traditional lore as a symbol of spiritual protection associated with fire dreaming and representing cleansing of the land.
